On 5th July 1948, the National Health Service was born. Over the last 70 years this health service has changed thousands of lives and has become a health service admired by the world.

The Trust is celebrating the 70th milestone throughout the year by delving into the past and running a number of features of different aspects of the NHS and how it has changed. A local schools competition will run in the spring encouraging children to design a birthday card showing someone they know who has benefited from the NHS. Other activities will take place and will be added to this website during the year.

Elsewhere in NHS England there are plans for street parties, award programmes, video stories and other events.

The  celebration also provides a fantastic opportunity to reflect on the vital contribution volunteers make across the service and to thank them for their hard work and support.

RBCH are also keen to use the milestone to increase volunteering and social action by young people in health and care by supporting the development of new opportunities for volunteering.

The celebration also offers the NHS and its partners an opportunity to inspire future generations of volunteers to play their part in shaping the next 70 years of innovation and care.
