Quick tests on offer as part of National HIV Testing Week

14 November 2017

The Department of Sexual Health at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH) is collaborating with HIV Prevention England as part of a national campaign to encourage people to get tested for HIV.

The sixth annual National HIV Testing week takes place from 18-24 November and the team at RBH is offering a rapid fingerprick test where people can find out their results in just 20 minutes, as well as support for those who are worried about testing.

Dr Cordelia Chapman, Consultant in Sexual Health at RBH, said: “Knowing your HIV status is important as it reduces the risk of serious preventable illness and prevents onward transmission. We are working hard to reduce the stigma faced by people living with HIV.”

She added: “Advances mean patients with HIV have a normal life expectancy and there are single tablets available for treatment.”

The rapid fingerprick tests will be available at RBH from 20-24 November either in the Department of Sexual Health or at a stand in the main atrium on Monday, Tuesday and Friday morning during the week.

To make an appointment, or to find out more about sexual health services at RBH, call 01202 704644 or log on to https://sexualhealthdorset.org/
