Traffic congestion around the Royal Bournemouth Hospital

5 April 2018

Roadworks around Tuckton and the closure of Tuckton Bridge are causing long delays for our patients, visitors and staff leaving the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, especially between 4-7pm.

We are working with Bournemouth Borough Council to see how traffic locally can be managed better and have teams in our car parks to help with the flow of traffic around our site.

The works are scheduled for completion by 15 April so please be aware of this before you travel. You may want to leave extra time to get to and from appointments, take public transport or delay going to your vehicle if congestion is especially bad and traffic on site does not seem to be moving.

Gary Powell, Head of Traffic Management for the council, said: “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience. Traffic in the area has been impacted by the current ongoing safety improvement works at Tuckton Roundabout and also the closure of Tuckton Bridge. The closure has been planned for the Easter holidays to minimise the impact on traffic.

“In the meantime, we will continue to monitor traffic flow and adjust the operation of the traffic signals where we think this can improve the flow. We would encourage motorists to use all diversion routes available and avoid peak times where at all possible.”
