New pregnancy loss support group

12 January 2018

A support group has been set up at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH) to help individuals grieving early pregnancy loss.

The group, which will be held in the Jigsaw Building, will meet quarterly, with the next meeting planned for Wednesday 17 January at 2pm.

The support group is the brain child of former RBH patient, Suzanne Stockbridge, who knows only too well how painful it is to deal with early pregnancy loss. She set up the Facebook page ‘Our Angel Bears’ where anyone can join for informal chats and a support network.

Suzanne has also been the driving force behind the provision of ‘memory bags’ for bereaved parents, which can be sent out on request and are part of the support service provided by RBH.

Suzanne, along with the hospital’s Early Pregnancy Team, has set up the group to give bereaved families the opportunity to come along for an informal chat with the nursing team and others who have been through the same painful experience.

She said: “Grieving an unborn child can be incredibly lonely. All too many people experience this huge loss but it’s not something society openly discusses. Our group is an opportunity for people to meet with others who have been through the same painful loss. It’s an opportunity to discuss that experience and to build a support network.

“At the group there will be opportunities to discuss their experiences or just to chat generally, knowing that there is a shared experience among them.”

If you’d like to come along to the support group or to find out more, contact Vanessa Wood or Wendy Copping in the Early Pregnancy Unit on 01202 303626 ext 5713.
