Critical Care Unit

  • COVID 19 patient information leaflet
  • Our Critical Care Unit is made up of our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU); together comprising a total of 12 critical care beds.

The unit specialises in many aspects of critical care including respiratory disorders, major post-operative care, sepsis, renal support and major cardiac events.

Patients are admitted to these units if their condition requires closer monitoring or treatment that cannot be performed on a general ward. They may need more complex equipment and medicines to support their normal body functions such as breathing, heart function or kidney function. These may not be working properly due to serious illness or injury.

Patients are admitted to the unit as elective or emergency cases by their consultant.

The Critical Care Unit is located on the first floor of the East Wing, opposite Wards 25 and 26.

    Your feedback

We want your hospital stay to be the best that it can be. Ensuring that you have the best care and treatment while you are on our ward is really important to us.

If you are not happy with the care that we are providing please ask for the nurse in charge. We want to be able to answer and address your questions and concerns as soon as possible and improve your experience, or that of your relative, while you are here.

Your feedback will also help us improve the experience of other patients.

If you are having a good experience on our ward we would also like to hear from you.
