Governors are a key link between the Trust and the local community. They ensure the views of local people are heard and fed back to the Board of Directors.

The Council of Governors is made up of public governors, staff governors and appointed governors.

The public governors represent three constituencies; Bournemouth and Poole, Christchurch and Dorset County and New Forest and Rest of England and develop the membership within their local constituency to ensure as many views as possible are represented.

Governors act in the following roles:

Governors as advisors
governors advise the Trust on what information service users and carers need, and the best way to involve the public in the development of those services.

Governors as guardians
governors help ensure the Trust conducts its business in a way that reflects its purpose and that the views of local communities and patients are taken into account when plans for services are being developed.

Governors as strategists
governors help plan and advise the Board of Directors on the strategic direction of the Trust. This includes working with directors to set priorities for improvement and change.

Governors as ambassadors
governors are ambassadors for the Trust, promoting the hospitals within their local constituencies.

The Governors wrote and follow their own Governor Charter.

As a member you can stand for election to become a Governor.
