NHS Sustainability Day

NHS Sustainability Day is a national campaign which encourages NHS Trusts around the country to engage on sustainability and share good practice. It provides exemplary Trusts with an opportunity to showcase their work within sustainability, such as waste management, carbon reduction, behaviour change, sustainable food, and many more. Ultimately the campaign is about achieving action, which culminates in the NHS Sustainability ‘Day of Action’ – 26th March 2015.

The campaign has generated significant support including politicians, healthcare professionals, and celebrities. A series of national roadshows are held throughout the year, which conclude with an awards ceremony to celebrate the positive work which NHS Trusts have achieved. The aim of the roadshows is to share knowledge across the healthcare sector and help the NHS achieve its overall carbon reduction goal in line with national targets.

During 2014 The Royal Bournemouth Hospital hosted one of the NHS Sustainability Day roadshows, on behalf of NHS Trusts across the south coast. A number of delegates from across the region attended the event which focused on a range of sustainability initiatives such as sustainable food, energy, water management, electric vehicles, and behaviour change.

The Trust was also presented with two awards for behaviour change and waste management at the NHS Sustainability Day 2014 awards ceremony at the Hatfields Conference Centre in London. The awards reiterated the hard work achieved in sustainability within the Trust over the last few years, and gave champions from the Green Impact scheme an opportunity to celebrate their success.
