What we can offer industry partners

We constantly strive to exceed the qualities that our industry partners expect from us. Needless to say we approach every trial with academic and administrative precision. We have assets in research expertise, trial infrastructure and local demographics, and we are proud to demonstrate these assets here:

Fully established research activities in key therapeutic areas:

  • Cardiovascular diseases
  • Critical Care and Anaesthetics
  • Gastroenterology
  • Haematology
  • Oncology
  • Orthopaedics
  • Rheumatology
  • Sexual Health

Broad patient cohort in key research areas

We are a leading district hospital in the south west with a significant patient catchment area, serving a population of 550,000. The 2015/16 patient cohorts in key therapeutic areas are shown below:

Key research area Number of patients using our services in 2015/16
Cardiology 15,479
Gastroenterology and Hepatology 7,743
Haematology 3,140
Medical Oncology 1,936
Orthopaedics 16,672
Rheumatology 7,447
Sexual Health 12,166

Our opportunities for future research into Elderly Medicine (and dementia) are particularly strong. By the year 2031 there is predicted to be a 43% growth in the population of residents aged over 65 in the east Dorset region (18).

Since 2008 we have recruited over 9,000 patients to 323 UKCRN Portfolio trials. Therefore we have an extensive and willing patient cohort that can be drawn on in key research areas.

Efficient feasibility assessment

We have the expertise to undertake a detailed feasibility assessment for your study.

We are sensitive to time constraints and prioritise feasibility assessments with single points of contact providing an accurate, fast and efficient service. This includes the analysis of our patient cohorts to determine patient eligibility based on your protocol.

Delivery through organisational structure

  • Organisational structure recently reviewed for flexibility and cost efficiency (19).
  • Clinical research infrastructure includes over 50 dedicated research staff.
  • Research nurses and clinical trials assistants demonstrate interdisciplinary expertise.
  • Data management and study coordination located in a centralised office and data staff able to deploy across therapeutic areas according to demand.
  • Pharmacy demonstrates a dedicated clinical trials team.

Delivery through expertise and learning

  • Investigators with established reputations.
  • Rich research culture invigorated by a regular research forum.
  • Investigator workshops to prepare staff for this role.
  • Onsite Good Clinical Practice training for hospital staff.
