Welcome to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital Orthopaedic Department.

The Royal Bournemouth Hospital is one of the largest hip and knee replacement centres in Europe. Focusing exclusively on elective surgery, we provide high quality comprehensive care for patients within the following sub-specialty teams:

  • Hip surgery: Includes procedures such as hip replacements, revisions and resurfacing of hip joint
  • Knee surgery: Includes procedures such as knee replacements, arthroscopy and Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) repairs
  • Foot and ankle surgery: Includes procedures such as ankle replacements, foot/toe corrections and achilles tendon repairs
  • Shoulder and elbow surgery: Includes procedures such as shoulder replacements, elbow replacements, arthroscopic procedures and tennis elbow releases
  • Hand and wrist surgery: Includes procedures such as wrist fusions and soft tissue procedures

All trauma cases are treated nearby at the Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the majority of our Senior clinicians work across both sites.

The majority of our patients are treated as day cases, meaning they arrive and go home on the day of surgery. Patients requiring an inpatient stay can be admitted to either the main hospital, or to our specialist orthopaedic centre, The Derwent.
