A record breaking Open Day

Over 1,000 visitors stepped through the doors of the Royal Bournemouth Hospital on Saturday at its annual Open Day, double the number that attended last year.

A wide range of departments and organisations had stands allowing visitors to ask questions about different procedures, conditions, treatments and how they could work for the NHS. The free event ran from 10am-3pm and had lots of interesting and interactive activities on offer.

Tours of theatres, the Endoscopy Department, the Plant Room, Xray, CT/MRI and physio were available as well as various health checks and tests. BMI and weight assessments were on offer as well as blood pressure and respiratory checks. The teddy bear clinic was as popular as ever and children and adults alike loved the visit from the Air Ambulance and the chance to sit in a Fire Engine and a Police car.

Lin Keal, Theatres Sister, said: “The Open Day was a massive success and it was lovely to see so many people come through theatres and see where patients go when they have their operations. Lots of people were fascinated by the equipment and asked lots of questions about what everything does.

“We noticed a huge increase in the number of people that toured theatres with over 900 people visiting our department. We’ll definitely be back next year!”

The free event is expected to return next year.
