Preparing for EU Exit

October 2019

Our Trust is preparing for EU Exit, in the event this takes place on 31 October 2019, either with or without a deal. We are working closely with the Department of Health and Social Care which is leading the national response across the health sector. We have a team overseeing our EU Exit preparations in line with the national guidance, with particular focus on:

  • Workforce – nearly 10% of our workforce come from EU countries. Colleagues from other EU countries are valued members of our team and we have been working with them and our European Staff Network to help them apply for EU settled status. We will continue to support our colleagues to do this after 31 October 2019.
  • Supplies – the Department of Health and Social Care has been working closely with the NHS, pharmaceutical companies, medical device supply companies and others in supply chains to make sure medicines and medical products continue to be available for patients if the UK leaves the EU without a deal. This includes maintaining extra national stock above usual levels so there is no need for patients or local health services to stock pile. Government advice for the public is to keep on ordering repeat prescriptions and taking your medicines as normal. Further details on medicine supply can be found here

We are also working closely with our local emergency preparedness, resilience and response forum (LRF) and continue to review our normal business contingency planning arrangements to ensure continuity of service. Local, regional and national reporting and response arrangements are in place.

Further details of national plans can be found here.
