Our team

You may encounter staff performing a number of different roles while you are in the department:

We have a team of consultants in emergency medicine working in this department who lead and support our medical staff throughout the day. Alongside them we have a number of specialty doctors and junior doctors.

Emergency Nurse Practitioners

These are nurses that have advanced qualifications and skills in emergency care in order to equip them with the ability to manage patient care, often without the need for a doctor. ENPs are able to discharge patients or refer them to specialties.

We have a dedicated team of qualified nursing staff who undertake a range of tasks including assessing you in triage, delivering medications, applying dressings and carrying out important tests. Some of our nurses are also able to prescribe medications and order x-rays.

Health Care Assistants and Phlebotomists

Working alongside the medical staff and nurses, these members of the team provide nursing care as well as other tasks such as taking blood pressure readings, performing ECGs (heart rate recordings), blood tests and putting in drips.

Other staff

There are a number of other staff members working as part of the multi-disciplinary Emergency Department team including receptionists, ward clerks, porters, cleaners, administrators and medical students.
